How Do I Ask Jesus to Be My Savior?
Asking Jesus to be your Savior is easy if you genuinely want to make that commitment because Jesus knows what is in your heart and makes it possible for you. Jesus loves all of us no matter what we have done and wants us to be in his family from the day we are born. He’s just waiting and hoping you will ask to join him so he can say yes. There is never any question about what his answer will be, provided you are making the request, not because someone else told you to do it, but because you want to do it.
Steps to Asking for Salvation
There are no right or wrong words to ask Jesus to take you into his family and to forgive you for your sins. You will see lots of examples around of what to say or the components that should be there, but essentially, what he wants to know is this:
Jesus wants to know the following about you: | Therefore, say something like this: |
Do you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and Savior of the World? | “Jesus, I know that you are the Son of God, Savior of this World and that you can forgive me of all my sins.” |
Are you sorry for your sins? | “I am sorry for the sins I have committed against you, my family, and friends. Please forgive me for these sins and help me learn how to stop sinning and live according to your will for my future. “ |
Then, ask him to take you into his family as you are and make you his. | Dear Jesus, I ask that you accept me as your own. I want to follow you all the days of my life, and with the help of your Holy Spirit, I will honor you with my life. Dear Jesus, thank you for accepting me as one of your family. Amen. |
I recommend finding someone to baptize you promptly so that you can receive the Holy Spirit. The spirit will help you learn more in your walk with Christ. Don’t feel bad if you don’t feel like anything has changed. You may feel a sense of comfort and closeness or not. It’s different for everyone. Most people don’t feel different at first, but they know their heart is different, even if the difference isn’t visible.
Get to Know Jesus
Establishing a relationship with Jesus after saying that prayer is essential. It takes time and commitment. Don’t let life get in the way of getting to know him. Read a Bible that speaks to you. I prefer audio versions so I can listen while driving or working around the house. There are all types available now—audio, apps on your phone, CDs, hard and soft copies of books, and numerous versions. I recommend getting one that says it’s a translation rather than an interpretation. Translations stick to the word of God, whereas interpretations are someone’s opinion about what might have happened.
As you read your Bible, you will find that the words make more sense now. Your level of understanding will be greater. The more you hear the words, the more you realize that you’re picking up greater knowledge than before you gave your life to Christ.
Meet Other Christians
Next, find a church with a congregation that you feel comfortable attending. You want somewhere that feels like home. Preferably, it should be somewhere that welcomed you the first time you came and one that speaks from the Bible and not the latest headline news.
If you can find a good Bible study group, you will learn more about a subject plus get to know members better. Even a virtual Bible study helps with spiritual support and encouragement. Another good source of encouragement is Christian radio. Listening to Contemporary Christian music, especially praise music, can be very uplifting and energetic.
Warning: Satan Will Try to Distract You
I hate to mention any negatives, but I do feel like I need to warn you of one thing: Satan likes to attack new Christians to distract them from getting to know Jesus better. Don’t be surprised if you have a little more trouble than usual for a while. You might find more things breaking down, or you might get a few more illnesses than usual. If that happens, remember that our fight is not with the forces we see but with the powers of good versus evil.
Good News: Our Team Is Stronger and Wins
You have Jesus on your side and all his Guardian angels available for his use. Satan is only a fallen angel, and so are the demons who do his bidding. Our side is stronger and has always outnumbered his side. Therefore, when you have troubles, pray to Jesus for his help to cover you in protection. Go to the Bible, allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your reading to verses of encouragement, and pray the verses aloud to cast out the evil forces attempting to surround you. We refer to this practice as using the Armor of God to fight the forces of darkness that try to take away your joy. It’s a mighty weapon available to Christians.
God Bless and Best Wishes in finding a perfect match church home.
